Prime Suspect: Ed Burke, Chicago Alderman
Nickname: The Burger King
Longtime Chicago political boss, Alderman Ed “The Burger King” Burke, has also met his match in federal investigators after being indicted this spring. Burke, who was the Chairman of the powerful Chicago City Council Finance Committee, was charged with 14 counts of racketeering and bribery in a detailed 59 page report released to the public. It accuses Alderman Burke, who has yet to resign, of steering business to his private law firm and using his office as a criminal “enterprise” as part of the racketeering charge. Racketeering is a provision within law to combat mobsters and organized crime that plagued major American cities like Chicago for decades.
