Prime Suspect: Tom Cullerton, IL State Senator
Nickname: The Ghost
The poster child for the quid pro quo relationship between corrupt union bosses and the Democrat machine is indicted State Senator Tom “The Ghost” Cullerton. Cullerton, Chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, was federally indicted this summer on 41 counts of embezzlement, conspiracy, and making false charges. The senator conspired with Teamsters union boss John Coli, himself indicted for corruption, to be paid for a job he didn’t actually perform. Cullerton pocketed $275,000 in salary and benefits from the Teamsters union for little or no work. Despite the indictment, Cullerton, the cousin of Senate President John Cullerton, continues to serve as a state senator and committee chairman.
